Greetings from The Bedford High School Alumni Association!

Dear Fellow Bedford High School Graduates,

Thanks to a new e-mail system from Harris Publications it is now possible for our organization to communicate with our fellow alumni in a cost efficient and timely manner. We are excited about this new system and hopefully you will be too. It enables us to keep you informed about future Bedford Alumni events and other good things that are happening at your “old” Alma Mater. We have people who live far away inquire all the time about the school, and now we are able to send out updates as the need arises. We hope that you will enjoy hearing from us from time to time. Our vice-president Gene Stock has the responsibility to produce and publish the newsletter. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions concerning the newsletter please contact him by e-mail at stocksportsinc@yahoo.com. He is also responsible for sending out press releases to the media and supplying information to the webmaster of the Bedford Public Schools web site for the Alumni Association. If you have any information that you would like publicized, such as reunion announcements, or if you need assistance in locating other classmates, please contact him. We are always looking for positive stories about Bedford Alumni to include in the newsletters; so if you have one, send it in.

Many of you may not be aware that we do have an active alumni association; so a little history is probably in order. The organization was born in 1996 as a result of the need to build a new football and track venue in Bedford. The voters in the community had made it clear that this venue would not be supported in a bond issue and our old facility was just not capable of hosting the events in this day and age. Our old stadium (as many of you will remember) was located behind our bus garage and not on the high school campus So, a group of Bedford Graduates got together and discussed the possibilities of forming an association. The list of things that the group could help with turned out to be far more than just the stadium. It was decided then to go ahead and form the association and that the first special project would be a privately funded new stadium for Bedford High School. The support of the community was overwhelming; people donated money, labor, materials and helped to raise funds for the project. The decision to name it the Bedford Community Stadium was easy, as the community became so deeply involved in the project. The association borrowed one million dollars to start the project and we now have an outstanding facility that is not only used by the school but is open to the entire community. On any given afternoon you will find area residents walking or running the track, sitting in the stands with a good book on a sunny day, or just stopping by to chat with friends. It has really been an outstanding project and we are very proud to have been a part of it. We continue to raise money to make our annual payment, and our balance is now under $280,000.00!

We are always looking for more people to become involved so if you have any questions on how to do that, please contact our President, Chuck Faller. We would also like to ask you to take a few minutes to up-date your records on the Bedford High School On Line Community. If you have not registered yet, please do so. There is no cost to register and up-date your information. Just follow this link to up-date your records: http://www.graduateconnections.com/bedfordhs/ This will be a great assistance to those alumni who would like to contact you. Up to date records are also very important when your class is planning a reunion. To receive e-mail up-dates from us you must check your records to make sure that your e-mail address is listed correctly on this site.

Current information concerning the Bedford High School Alumni Association along with archival copies of Alumni newsletters will also be posted on the following web site: www.bedfordyes.com (go to the Alumni Association page).

Should you choose to donate to the BHS Alumni Association, please know that the Association is a federally recognized 501(c)3 charitable organization and your contribution may be tax deductible.

Remember that you can contribute your required minimum distribution from your IRA to the BHS Alumni Association. This distribution will not be included in your income and will be sent directly to the Association. Of course, any donation is welcome and appreciated but two of our most popular options are the Million Dollar Club and the Lifetime Membership Program.

To join the Million Dollar Club, you pledge to donate $200.00 per year for five (5) years. In exchange, your name will be included on a plaque on the “Recognition Wall of Fame” (located on the east wall of the stadium).

To receive a Lifetime Membership you donate $200.00 and in exchange, you will receive an 8” x 8” brick which identifies you (and/or your company) as a Lifetime Member. This brick will be placed permanently in Alumni Plaza adjacent to the Victory Bell at the stadium.

We are requesting alumni’s email addresses for all Bedford Alumni. If you know the email addresses of alumni, please send them or a list to Pam Krell, at krellpam@aol.com.

On behalf of the Bedford High School Alumni Association, we want to thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of these requests. For additional information on the BHS Alumni Association, please explore this web site. ~Yours for Bedford
