When Bedford High School students start selecting classes for the 2021-2022 school year this week, they now have the option to request Lourdes University courses, taught at Bedford, that seamlessly flow into the University's College of Nursing Program.
This program is unique to Bedford and offers students the opportunity to explore and pursue a nursing degree starting as early as their sophomore year at Bedford High School.
Students will enroll in a combination of Bedford High School AP classes and select Lourdes University classes that will be taught at Bedford High School for the first 2 years of the program, starting in 10th grade. Once they reach their senior year, these students will be traveling to the Lourdes University for their nursing program classes. They will still have some room in their schedules to enjoy elective classes offered at Bedford.
By the time they graduate at the end of their 4 years at Bedford, students fully participating in this program will have earned 36 college credit hours. They will get a guaranteed spot in Lourdes University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. They will be able to get their BSN in just 3 ½ years with a lighter course load during their time at Lourdes University.
This Bedford High School/Lourdes University Dual Enrollment Nursing Program Flyer shows the recommended program of study students would follow during their time at Bedford High School. Lourdes University has more information on their Bedford/Lourdes Scholars Program webpage.
Program credits may also apply to other Lourdes’ majors such as: Social Work, Middle/Secondary Science Education, Exercise Science, and Biology. Students participating in the program are under no obligation to complete the full program and any credits are transferable.
Bedford High School principal, Mr. Weber, also has a video about this program in the Scheduling Hub. The Lourdes University courses are listed in the Course Description Guide starting on page 55. If you are interested, please contact your counselor about the steps required to participate in this new and exciting program. If you are an incoming Freshman, we also recommend that you let your counselor know you are interested in doing this in the future so they can help plan out your other required classes for graduation.
We are very excited to be able to offer this unique opportunity to our Bedford students!
