Wednesday, August 31st

This is a great opportunity to meet your teacher, take beginning of school year pictures, join the PTO, bring in your school supplies, and more! If you are not able to make the open house, please just send your students with their supplies on the first day. We will have staff available to help students.

     Young Fives/Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2: 5:00-5:30 p.m.
     3rd-5th Grades: 5:30-6:00 p.m.

NOTE: Grade level teaching staff will be in their classrooms during the times that are listed below only. Special area teachers will be at a table outside of the school. There will be open house photo backdrops available at the school to take your first day pictures.

How do I find out my child's teacher?
You will receive an email from the school administration prior to Open House to let you know who your child will have as a teacher. Teacher assignments will also be posted in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal on Wednesday August 31st. Young Fives and Kindergarten students will receive a bus tag in the mail (even if they don’t plan on riding the bus) that will list their teacher and bus route.

CHROMEBOOK ROLLOUT

  • All Chromebook information must be completed online in RevTrak prior to any student receiving their Chromebook.
    If you need hard copies of the paperwork please email [email protected].
  • Chromebooks will be handed out the first couple weeks of school.
  • New students will receive their Chromebook and training at the beginning of the school year.

The office will be open from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm with a lunch break from Noon-1:00 pm.

The office will be closed to the public beginning on Wednesday, June 22nd and will reopen on Wednesday, August 24th.

SUMMER EVENING ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITY:
 Registrations for new students will be accepted during extended office hours from 11 am until 7 pm on August 17th in the BPS District Administration Offices.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU TO REGISTER A NEW STUDENT:

Bedford Public Schools Registration Form

Registration & Information Packets are also available from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm in school offices or the Instruction and Student Services Office located within Smith Road Elementary School at 1135 Smith Road, Temperance, MI 48182.

Health Appraisal Form

This form, with sections completed by a medical professional, needs to be submitted along with the registration form.

Consent for Immunization Disclosure Form

Consent for Immunization Disclosure Form is required for all Kindergarten students, 7th grade students, and any new students to Bedford Public Schools regardless of grade.

Additionally, the following items are required by the State of Michigan to register at any Michigan public school:

Proof of Residency

Proof of Residency must include one item from each of the following categories:

  1. Proof of homeownership (Property tax, deed) or rental/lease agreement
  2. Current utility bill (water, gas, electric) or homeowner’s insurance policy
  3. Valid Michigan Driver’s License or Michigan State ID with current Bedford address

    Birth Certificate

    • An official certified birth certificate with the raised county seal or security watermark. Photo copies and hospital certificates are not accepted.
    • If parent's name is different than what is listed on the child's birth certificate, additional documentation will be required.

    Accurate Immunization Records from Health Care Provider

    • Immunization records must be up to date before the start of school.

    Hearing & Vision Screening Records

    • Screenings must be up to date before the start of school.

    Custody/Guardianship Papers (if applicable)

     

    • Current custody papers for students not residing with both biological parents.
    • Legal guardianship papers if student is not residing with either biological parent.

    Any exceptions to the requirements listed above shall be approved by the Office of Instructional and Student Services.

    (Current Young Fives students do not need to re-enroll for Kindergarten. They will automatically be placed in a Kindergarten class for next year.)

    Playdate with the Principal Information

    August 18 from 10-11 am
    Incoming kindergarten families are encouraged to join us on Thursday, August 18 from 10-11 am at the MRE Playground (small playground to the left of the main entrance near Clegg lot) to meet Mr. Chapman and Mrs. Kochendoerfer. This is also a great opportunity to meet other new Kindergarten students and families!

    Each student has won the following:

    • A medal
    • A certificate
    • The 1st Place winners will have a zoom call with an author, Barbara Carney-Coston, for their class.
    • A published hardcover book for themselves and their school

    On top of the county awards for 1st place winners, Monroe Road Elementary will also host a special pizza and salad luncheon for the students (and two adult guests) on Friday, May 27 from 12-1 pm.

    Some changes have been made to the drop-off and pick-up process. Please review the Arrival/Dismissal Traffic Flow Map to help things flow smoothly from Day 1! 

    VEHICLE TAGS FOR STUDENT PICK-UP
    Please fill out the Vehicle Tag for Student Pick-Up Form if you plan to pick-up your student(s) after school. This is a safety precaution and will help the pick-up line flow more smoothly. 

    LATCHKEY IS AVAILABLE
    Latchkey is available before and after school. You can learn more on the Latchkey website or by calling 734-850-6004 to speak with Latchkey Director, Amber Brushaber.

    MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION FORM
    Parents can drop off any medication that will be given at school in the health room. A Medication Authorization Form, signed by a physician, must accompany the medication. This includes many common over-the-counter medications, such as cough drops.

    UNIVERSAL SCHOOL MEALS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED; FREE & REDUCED SCHOOL MEALS APPLICATION AVAILABLE
    We encourage families in need to fill out a Free and Reduced School Meals Application. Other programs that may benefit families may also require this form to be completed in order to be considered. Family participation in the program may also qualify the school to receive additional funding to support our students. This form can be filled out online: http://www.lunchapp.com/.

    2022-2023 BUS ROUTES--COMING IN AUGUST
    Find the stop nearest to your house. Please note that the staff is continuing to make adjustments to the routes as last minute student registrations come in. Please double check before the first day of school. 

    WHERE’S THE BUS?
    Use this link to follow the bus along its route. This is especially helpful in the first couple of weeks of school until everyone settles down into a routine. Just keep in mind that the display lags a few minutes behind the actual bus location.

    Bedford Public Schools will begin utilizing Infinite Campus' ability to send out Emergency Notifications. You can manage your contact preferences within your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. (If you have not set up your Parent Portal Account yet, please look for an email sent this past Monday for instructions and an activation key code.)

    You can choose how you want to receive our messages: email, phone calls, and now text messages. The default setting is email and phone options. If you wish to add text messages, you will have to add that as an option in your Parent Portal Settings.     You can edit your phone numbers within the portal, but if you need to change your email, you will need to contact the school office.

    GSRP Now Registering for Fall 2021GSRP ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS

    The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a tuition-FREE Preschool that prepares children for kindergarten. Eligible students are children living in Monroe County who attain age 4 by September 1st of the current school year.
