Dr. Shultz Shares a BPS Update

Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
I hope that this message finds you all healthy and in good spirits. It has been a while since I have shared an update with all of you and I know there were a few of you who were missing my always brief messages. The great news is that I write today with positive news regarding the district and our community as a whole. As we look forward to the many wonderful events that are scheduled throughout the district, I am grateful for the support and work that all of you have put in this school year, and always, to ensure that BPS remains the best district in the state.
The spring calendar is filling up quickly with our traditional school events. I am extremely pleased that the status of the pandemic (I prefer the term endemic) has once again allowed the district to host our traditional end of the year events without restrictions. Each school building has welcomed classroom and event visitors following pre-COVID protocols. Our district athletic teams are in full swing and our arts and music programs have been able to participate in normal end of year showcase events. The Class of 2022 Commencement will be returning to the University of Toledo’s Savage Arena. Robotics teams across the district have competed this year and continue to be recognized as some of the best in the state and world. In fact, things are going so well that the State of Michigan even found a way to complete mandate state testing this spring! I can write this last statement with a smile because I am confident in our district’s preparation and continued academic excellence throughout the year.
Additionally, we have continued our work toward improving district facilities across the district. The community approved bond work is in the final stages of completion. All of the projects that were presented as part of the bond have been completed on time and on budget. The approximately ($150,000) in available funds that are remaining from the bond are dividends and interest and must be spent on bond related projects. These funds will be allocated by the Board of Education before the end of the fiscal year. Finally, the district has been working collaboratively with a number of our local business partners and community members to create plans to further improve of our facilities for students, staff, and community members. I will be sharing more about these project in future updates.
Thank you again for your support and patience as we have successfully navigated what I believe to have been some of the most uncertain time periods in our nation’s history. We have accomplished this only through our reliance on strong families and incredible staff members. I couldn’t be more proud to be a Bedford Kicking Mule and look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event! I hope that everyone has a wonderful long weekend and Easter Holiday.
