BCAN (Buckeye Community Arts Network) recognizes outstanding educators for their efforts in and out of the classroom. Mrs. Nicole Macke, was chosen as their Classroom Hero for the month of February!
Mrs. Macke has been teaching for 23 years. Her favorite part about being a teacher is “the relationships that I get to build with the students.” She sees that as a crucial first step to being a successful teacher.
She was nominated by the mother of one of her students, Mrs. Jennifer Riegle, who noted the positive impact her efforts have on all of her students but especially for her daughter, “Mrs. Macke creates a classroom where all students feel included, valued, and supported. She has taught her class that each student is a uniquely wonderful individual that brings their own strengths to the classroom, while at the same time helping them to strengthen their skills and understanding of important content. Mrs. Macke has read our daughter inspiring books, has helped her to recognize the gifts and strengths she carries, and has encouraged her to use different tools that will help support her unique learning abilities.”
Mr. Chapman, principal at Monroe Road Elementary, agrees, “ Mrs. Macke is an asset to our school, district, and community. She has taught 5th grade at MRE since our school opened in 2001.”
The BCAN crew made a surprise visit to Monroe Road Elementary to present Mrs. Macke with her award, a check for $300, and they also conducted a brief on-camera interview. You can view the announcement and interview videos they produced online at:

Mrs. Macke plans to use some of the award funds to build up her classroom library with some student suggested titles.
