Update from the Superintendent, Dr. Carl Shultz

December 3, 2021

Dear Bedford Families, Staff, and Community,

The district has been made aware of a social media post by a former BPS Student that mentioned the threat of a school shooting taking place. The post did not mention any specifics, however it was written to insinuate that it was toward her current school. However, BPS administration have been made aware of the post since the student was a former student.

In communicating with the poster's current school district, we have learned that they are also aware and are investigating. BPS leadership and our partners in the Monroe County Sheriff Department do not feel that there is any connection with the district, however, I wanted to make sure that all families and staff members were made aware of this knowledge.

I would like to thank the parents and staff that brought this potential issue to the attention of the Junior High School Administration. This notification was consistent with the steps that I outlined in last evening's update. Throughout the foreseeable future, we will be working with the Monroe County Sheriff Department to have available patrols stepped-up on and around our district campuses as an additional measure of security.

Again, BPS has not received any threats toward our district and we are continuing with our educational process as scheduled. This message is to keep our community informed and up to date.

Thank you and I hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing weekend.

Sincerely,
Dr. Carl Shultz
Superintendent, Bedford Public Schools
