Collage of FOCUS art piecesFOCUS 2023 Art Show

Now Through December 15th

Walking into the gallery at the University of Toledo’s Center for Visual Arts, one might be surprised to discover that all of the artwork on display was done by high school students! From now until December 15th, the artwork on display is part of the FOCUS 2023 Art Show which is a juried exhibition of high school student artwork from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

Congratulations to Aubrey L., Miriam S., Reese W., Sophie W., Phoebe S., Jayda N., Mya K. (2 entries), Gracelynn G., Ava G. (Class of 2023), and Paige H. (Class of 2023). These 10 artists from Bedford High School had 11 of their entries selected for inclusion in this year’s show.

Gracelynn’s “Love is Painful” was chosen for the Principal’s Award and Mya’s self portrait was chosen for the Superintendent’s Award. Paige’s ceramic piece, “Under the Sea,” was presented with a prestigious Juror Award at the awards ceremony last night at the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art.

If you get a chance, stop by the gallery, adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art, before the show closes on December 15th, to see some incredible pieces of art created by our very talented artists.

Thank you to our high school art instructors Jason Sanderson, Brent Douge, Lindsay Mylek-Douge and Jeremy Snyder for nurturing that talent and providing the opportunity for creative expression in their classrooms!

And special thanks to The Toledo Museum of Art, The Arts Commission and American Frame for sponsoring the show with the support of Tile Club, The University of Toledo, The Art Supply Depo and the Athena Art Society and for selecting students to recognize at the FOCUS Show. This has been a long-standing tradition and we appreciate your dedication to these young artists!

HOSA Bedford logoHOSA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

HOSA REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
AT BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL
DECEMBER 2, 2023

Extracurricular opportunities give our students a chance to shine in areas they are interested in. One of the many opportunities offered at Bedford is HOSA...geared toward future health professionals. Both the high school and junior high school have HOSA chapters and have enjoyed much success since their inception with students advancing all the way to the international level of competition!

This year is another first for the HOSA program at Bedford. We will be hosting the HOSA Regional Leadership Conference on December 2nd. With an estimated 700 participants, we need lots of help...especially judges in a variety of health and medical related categories. There are also additional volunteer opportunities that do not require any medical expertise.

The conference will begin at approximately 8 am, with events running most of the morning and the awards ceremony starting at approximately 2 pm.

Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer at the HOSA Regional Leadership Conference at Bedford High School on Saturday, December 2, is asked to complete the following form: https://forms.gle/cmfURKZjpccBtJHW6. A list of judging categories is included in the form.

Please reach out to Jennifer Regalado at [email protected] with any questions.

To find out more about HOSA, visit hosa.org.

HOSA PSA

We are so excited to be hosting the HOSA Regional Event here at Bedford this year! There are many different health career related categories that students can compete in. One focuses on creating Public Service Announcements (PSA) and we can share those with you!

The team of Paige A., Audrey D., Gabby P., and Coryne C. produced a PSA as part of their HOSA competition entry. You can watch their YouTube video titled "Fentanyl Kills" here!

BOYS TENNIS GOES TO STATE FOR 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!

Bedford Boys Varsity Tennis traveled to Grand Rapids for possibly the rainiest state tennis tournament ever held with lots of delays, schedule and site changes to deal with as well as playing very late into the night. The team played extremely well overall for a very respectable showing.

Jaxon N., at #1 singles, played extremely well and won his first match 6-0,6-0 before falling to the number 4 seed 6-4,6-1. Jaxon was recently named the Monroe County Player of the Year.

Carter R., at #4 singles, played some of his best tennis of the year. He won his first match 6-3,6-4. Despite contending with huge delays and a last minute site change, he also won his second match by 6-3,6-4 before ending his first day at 11:15 pm. On the second day Carter lost 6-2,6-0 to the number 2 seed who was state runner up.

Monroe County Coach of the Year, Coach Cukierski, commented that, “Bedford was represented at the state meet by a great group of boys that conducted themselves with great sportsmanship throughout their season to make the school and community very proud. Can’t wait to see what this team can accomplish in the future.”

New School Records
Jaxon and Carter both had 23 singles wins this season and now share that record.
Jaxon also tied the career singles record of 55 wins.
In doubles, Taylor B. is now the career record holder with 30 wins after two seasons with Carter and one with Donovan P. as his partner.
