HOW ARE BEDFORD STUDENTS USING TECHNOLOGY?

Chromebooks provide the flexibility for anytime and anywhere learning. Bedford is a Google Apps for Education district which provides students cloud based resources to create, manage, and share their learning. Students have choice, personalization, and freedom to share their learning to best meet their strengths and needs. Students are using online curriculum materials and textbooks that allow them to interact with text and multimedia to provide a deeper understanding of the material with multi-modality components.

Students in grades K-8 learn about establishing a positive digital footprint and how to be responsible, respectful, and safe online with the implementation of a digital safety and personal privacy curriculum.

Students are provided with a variety of formative assessment opportunities in the classroom such as Kahoot, Socrative, Quizziz, and Google forms to share their learning.

The implementation of the Schoology learning management system K-12 provides a common district-wide communication portal, as well as the delivery and storage of instructional materials, and student work flow management with 24/7 access to learning materials.

The use of videoconferencing tools provides the opportunity for students in Bedford to connect and collaborate with students throughout the world. This technology also provides opportunities to engage with professionals that students would not otherwise be able to encounter in person. This has included collaborations with students in New York City during the height of the global pandemic, book clubs with students across the globe, and special virtual field trips touring Monticello, the Alaskan Iditarod race, and the Global Read Aloud Project, to name a few.

Bedford will continue to research and invest in unique learning opportunities, robust materials, and updated equipment to give our Bedford students rich digital experiences to help them live and learn in an increasingly digital world.
