Update from the Superintendent, Dr. Carl ShultzDecember 16, 2021

Dear Bedford Public Schools Community:

As you may be aware, an anonymous nationwide threat is circulating on social media that warns of threats against all U.S. schools on Friday, December 17th. Bedford Public Schools has consulted with our local law enforcement partners, as we do for all potential safety concerns. There is no evidence of any local connections to these social media posts, and law enforcement does not deem these posts as credible threats in our area.

All BPS schools will be in session tomorrow and following our posted regular schedule. In addition to our extensive daily safety precautions, additional Monroe County Sheriff Deputies will be in close contact with our district buildings. As previously stated, the Monroe County Sheriff Department and the Michigan State Police are aware of these nationwide social media posts and both have stated that they do not find these to be credible threats and that there is no evidence to suggest that there is a local connection to the posts. For additional information, please follow the link below outlining the Michigan State Police Department’s involvement with this particular social media incident.

Families are encouraged to use this opportunity to discuss using social media responsibly. We remind students when they see posts of this nature not to reshare them, but instead to pass them on to school leaders or the Monroe County Sheriff Department. As always, the best people for students to seek out when they have information that can help keep our schools safe are their parents, teachers, counselors, and school administrators. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure the safest environment for our school community.

Sincerely,

Carl Shultz, PhD
